David Desimpelaere
David Desimpelaere (°1991, Kortrijk, Belgium) is principal bassist with the ‘Luzerner Sinfonieorchester’ and professor of double bass at the ‘Hochschule Luzern – Musik’ and the School of Arts Ghent. Next to this he is regularly invited as guest principal bass with some of the world’s most renowned orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, among others. David is giving masterclasses worldwide in music universities and during music festivals.
Before working in Luzern David has hold principal bass positions with Brussels Philharmonic and the ‘Orchestra della Svizzera italiana.
Next to his profession as orchestral musician and teacher David is often performing as soloist and chamber musician. Together with his brother Erik (pianist/composer) he shares the stage regularly. In recent years they have been very active making recordings and publishing them online on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes and other platforms. Their recordings have been praised by various music magazines.
David studied with Rinat Ibragimov at the ‘Guildhall School of music and drama’ in London and with Bozo Paradzik at the ‘Musikhochschule Freiburg’, where he obtained a soloist diploma with the highest honor. Before that, he completed a master degree at the Brussels Conservatory of Music in the class of Frank Coppieters.
The modern double basses David is playing have been made my Marco Nolli (Cremona) and Derek High (Schotland/Reutlingen). He plays a new bow made by Adriano Massari (Bologna).
